Have you ever been sitting in a pub and fancied a curry but didn’t know where your nearest curry house is? Or come out of the Doctors with a prescription, but didn’t know where your nearest pharmacy is? Well, now there’s an app for that – in Brighton and Hove at least! Brighton and Hove City Council approached Mubaloo wanting an app that would showcase the local tourist attractions and amenities, and deliver them in an interactive and visually attractive way.
Our Solution
The AroundMe app is perfect for those visiting Brighton & Hove, or for a resident that just wants to know what’s what and where. The app will help users find more than 13,000 places of interest around Brighton & Hove. It’s like having a Tourist Information Centre in your pocket.
Mubaloo designed an app that is easy to use – users set a starting location (via GPS, or by typing an address/postal code, selecting an address from the iPhone's contacts or from a list of previous searched locations) and then select from a long list of Places of Interest. There’s no need to ask for directions; everything is fully mapped out. All data is searched locally on the iPhone, and by tapping on a Point of Interest users can view the address, send an email to a friend, view the website, add to Favourites or get directions by launching Google Maps.
Conclusion
By developing this app, Brighton & Hove have shown themselves to be an innovative and inventive council, and they have provided visitors to the region with a valuable interactive user experience. It is a great way to showcase all that the area has to offer, and it is hoped that other councils will follow their lead and develop their own localised apps.
