Global Radio had recently invested in iPads for their 500 sales staff and had written an in-house HTML5 Web App presentation tool app to aid their salespeople in creating compelling and interactive presentations for potential clients. The application packages up video and audio content which can be played through the app through a simple user interface. The Web App was great to test the popularity of such an application amongst staff, but the design and execution did not fit the Global brand of innovation and quality - so Global came to Mubaloo with a challenge of taking the idea of the HTML 5 application and moving it into a whole new level of design and functionality.
Our Solution
Mubaloo understood that design was the key element of success for this application, and wanted to take all the benefits of working on a native iOS application, such as sweeping gestures and inventive UI to make this application really stand out. To this effect the most important point in the development was the design workshop, where the Mubaloo UI expert and head of design created several ideas for UI and look and feel and talked these through with Global. Out of this meeting the original mechanical selector wheel for the video content sections, and the flexible side-bar were created. As we created each screen and design element Mubaloo and Global worked collaboratively in refining initial design ideas into complex final signed off designs, such as the 3d rendered images on the side bar menu and the soundboard.
The functionality in the application takes advantage of the iPad functionality and user interface allowing ease of access to content without resorting to bulky laptops and slow powerpoints. Global Radio wanted to showcase their video and audio content, emphasising the emotive power of radio and sound in advertising. Furthermore content can be presented in a far more interactive format on a tablet which can be passed around and played with by potential clients as well as allowing the presenter to illustrate points at their fingertips.
Conclusion
This native iPad application was designed and coded in six weeks, meeting a Global deadline to ensure all their salespeople could use the new application in place of the WebApp when taking their presentation on the road. The design is clearly moving iOS UI on to the next level and really taking advantage of the slick and intuitive potential available of these types of devices. Ultimately Global has an impressive asset to take into new client meetings, representing the quality of their brands, and acting as an immersive and compelling sales tool which will undoubtedly make their message memorable to potential clients.
