Shop Direct investment in digitisation pays off

Shop Direct recently announced that in its most recent financial year, the company saw its profit increase by 78%, to £71.1 million after focusing on becoming a digital first company.

Shop Direct recently announced that in its most recent financial year, the company saw its profit increase by 78%, to £71.1 million. For the past few years, the company has focused on becoming a digital first company, which included axing its paper catalogue this year, after more than 80 years of publication.

The firm’s financial year, which ended on the 30th June, was Shop Direct’s third consecutive year of record profits. The company decided to transition its business from offline to online very quickly, understanding that it needed to make the change in order to grow.

Key to Shop Direct’s success has been the way in which it has invested in big data and technology. This will see Shop Direct continue to deliver personalisation to customers, which is driven out of the testing efforts Shop Direct carry out in its user experience lab.

“Being online-only means more mobile innovation, especially in personalisation where we aim to offer each customer an experience as unique as she is.” said Alex Baldock, Group CEO in its financial results, “We’ve tailored her online experience, including the marketing that brings her in, the online shop she then enters, and the way we engage with her after she’s bought. Our investment in Big Data and technology has started to pay off and is making these new levels of personalisation possible.”

Earlier this year, Mubaloo started working with Shop Direct, for the development of the MyVery Android app, which launched in August this year. We’re delighted to be a part of Shop Direct’s digital transformation and helping to assist its commitment to being a digital first retailer.

When speaking about prospects for the remainder of the year, Alex said, “Four months in, we’ve made a strong start to the new financial year too. We’re in good shape for the peak Christmas period, and we expect growth, discipline and transformation to drive another record year.”
