While PC shipments continue to fizzle, mobile is one of the shining stars besides the cloud, cyber security and others. The continued shift from mobile phones to smartphones and the adoption of tablets are two of the key drivers, but mobile carriers like AT&T and Verizon are already attacking new growth markets, such as the connected car and the connected home. While the latter two are in their early stages, smartphone shipments are expected to overtake mobile phones this year, while tablet shipments are slated to surpass PCs in 2013.
