Earlier this year The Drum launched the MOMA Awards to help identify the great work happening in the mobile space and we’re very pleased to announce that The Met Office iPhone & Android app has been nominated for an award in the Public Sector category!

Other mobile agencies nominated include Millennial Media, Somo Global and Fetch, as well as brands including Quidco, Audi, Coca Cola, Intel and easyJet. The judging criteria was based on evidence of strategic thinking, innovation, creativity and tangible results. We’re really excited to see the Met Office app up for another award, after recently winning App of the Year at The Sparkies 2013, it’s great to see the app getting recognition in the media.
The Met Office iPhone weather app has seen huge amounts of success over 2012 and 2013, with over 5,000,000 downloads in just over a year since its launch. The app now accounts for over half of the Met Office’s overall web traffic, highlighting the huge shift we seeing from desktop to mobile. We are continually working with the Met Office on ways to improve the app through analytics and user feedback; to ensure the app’s 5m users are getting the best experience possible. The recent addition of social media sharing within the app has proved a great success for the weather app, and this decision to add social integration was based on user feedback.
The award ceremony is taking place on Thursday 13th June at the Emirates Stadium in London. We’ll be attending the ceremony along with The Met Office so be sure to keep up-to-date on Twitter using the hashtag #momaawards!
