Mubaloo’s Key Success Factor Framework is useful to help assess a mobile app concept, helping to define the best mobile product to meet the needs of the end user in an impactful manner. This assessment will help to both identify the key challenges to be faced and communicate these challenges.
The Key Success Factors provides a framework to assess and understand a mobile product across 5 key areas; identified as areas that encompass the challenges faced in delivering solutions of this kind:
What drives value to the end user and ensures adoption? What drives value to the business and ensures Return On Investment?
User Experience –
How will the user interact with the mobile product? What is the simplest way that the required functionality can be delivered? Has the environment in which the product will be used been considered?
What data/content needs to be surfaced/stored to power the application? Is this available and accessible?
What level of security is required? Is the data/content that is being surfaced secure? Are data privacy requirements considered and addressed? Are the users aware of the security features?
Release/Change Management – Is there a plan to take the product to market? How will users be acquired and retained? Will they understand how to use the product?
What is the best technology to deliver the product? Is this an App? Is this a website? Is there an existing product that can be leveraged?
Each success factor will challenge the current status of the mobile product, enabling the discovery of key challenges to overcome for success and allowing for these challenges to be articulated; not only at development but as an ongoing product.
The concept is that the Key Success Factors are addressed to quickly highlight areas that present the greatest challenge and therefore need the most focus. Generally a product will face challenges over two or three of the Key Success Factors and in these cases other factors need to be looked at to address the challenges.
If there is an issue in data integration, look to mitigate this in the release plan by integrating that data at a later date, if possible. If there is a security issue on a data set that will slow product development down, assess the importance of this data set on Product.
Balance the elements off to ensure smooth initial development and work on addressing the more complex issues for later releases; when doing this it is vital to understand the value you are delivering to the customer. Every release must drive value or the customers or end users will not adopt the mobile product. Ultimately, in order to launch successful mobile solutions, an approach that focuses on customers needs, drives adoption and manages risk needs to be adopted.
